Members of 1st Oulton Baden Powell Scouts have cleared overgrown headstones at Stone churchyard in a practical conservation project. A total of 23 leaders, young people and parents took part in the work on 12th October 2026.
What the Scouts did
The group uncovered headstones that had become partly hidden by grass, soil and moss. They also tackled ivy, bushes and branches around the area, using spades and other tools to clear sections of the churchyard and bring more of the headstones back into view.
Learning and future projects
1st Oulton Baden Powell Scouts said the session gave its younger members the chance to help with a practical project while learning about the importance of looking after local history.
The group thanked Paul Evans for organising the opportunity and inviting the Scouts to get involved. Further opportunities to participate in local projects have also been discussed.
