A project to uncover and record headstones at Stone churchyard has begun, with volunteers needed to help recover information about people buried there.
Years ago, a decision was made to lay flat headstones around the churchyard perimeter. The church kept no record of where individual stones were placed. The first five headstones have already been revealed as work continues around the perimeter.
How to get involved
The next volunteer session takes place on Saturday 19 September, from 10.30am until 3pm. People can drop in during the day and no previous experience is needed.
Volunteers should bring sturdy footwear and, where possible, suitable tools such as a Dutch hoe, hard brush or spade.
Those planning to attend should contact organiser Paul Evans in advance, either directly or by emailing church.warden@mail.com.
